Recognized by the Michigan Sheriff’s Association as Sheriff of the Year in 2019 for his strong innovation and leadership. Sheriff Reich believes in pro-active leadership, continuing to fight crime through strategic patrol efforts, further implementation of evidence-based policing strategies, and ensuring the best training and latest technology are used by our deputies, as we strive to make our communities the safest in our state.
I will continue using my 37 years of Law Enforcement experience, knowledge, and leadership to provide the very best public safety law enforcement, and jail correctional services in Eaton County. As public servants, we recognize our residents are our employers. Eaton County residents deserve our very best effort every day to provide them the safest communities possible.
It is a great honor to serve the people of Eaton County as Sheriff and to lead the courageous men and women deputies who serve in our communities with dedication and commitment.
The office of Sheriff should be one of the most non-partisan, non-political elected offices. My focus is on running an effective, professional law enforcement agency focused on public safety and enforcing the law.
I plan to continue and expand our collaborations with other law enforcement agencies, including our Active Violence Training program, Capital Area Violent Crime Initiative, and continue conducting our recently successful multi-agency Child Sex Offender/Human Trafficking enforcement.
The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office was among the first to implement Body Worn Cameras (2014), train and issue Narcan (and AED’s) to all Deputies (2015), and provide Crisis Intervention and De-escalation training since 2015. We are leaders for MI county jails implementing our nationally recognized Medication Assisted Treatment program as part of our comprehensive Substance Use Disorder treatment.
The safety of our residents is my number one priority. Our focus will always be as true guardians of the community.
We will continue our involvement and presence in community events and our public safety education programs such as boating, ORV, and hunter safety classes.
We will continue to protect our Senior Citizens from those who seek to harm them and defraud them.
It is important to recognize the role of technology in policing. Since 2013, we have continuously evaluated and implemented the latest training and technological advancements to enhance evidence gathering when combating crime and protecting the public. Our new Aerial Drone program has located wanted fugitives in dense swamps, lost/missing
It is important to recognize the role of technology in policing. Since 2013, we have continuously evaluated and implemented the latest training and technological advancements to enhance evidence gathering when combating crime and protecting the public. Our new Aerial Drone program has located wanted fugitives in dense swamps, lost/missing persons, and video documented crime and crash scenes. Our new Crime Analyst has successfully identified suspects from video/photo evidence using the latest technology.
Recognizing the need for assisting our local EMS agencies in the rural townships of Eaton County.
Plans are being developed for a Deputy/Paramedic patrol unit. Deputy Paramedics will serve in a dual role as patrol deputies and as Advanced Life Support Paramedics responding to life threatening medical event , supporting our existing EMS agencies in saving lives.
